Christmas 2007

Christmas day started with a blooming Christmas cactus. I guess it realized we didn't put up ANY decorations and wanted to be festive.

Off to the farm to decorate Brandy for our Christmas Ride. Several of us went out Christmas morning for a short ride. Few of the horses were not enjoying it and made it known they didn't want to be out. Brandy refused to walk forward...spent the time walking backwards in and out of ditches and doing circles rather than going forward. Angel threw her rider, Okie and Tuscany wanted to gallop down the road, Lucky and Sarge were good as were Teak and Ziggy

This is when Brandy was behaving himself...but I wasn't in the saddle yet.......

My 2 nephews playing with the baby's toys...

Eizik and Emmy dancing with the snowman

My Daddy playing hockey...he shoots...he scores...NOT....

Eizik with Oma opening yet another present.

Playing in the Snow

My sweet little guy playing in the snow today. I was throwing snow at him and he came up to me, buried his nose and threw some back at me....it was very sweet.

We said goodbye to Sam today. This sweet man had a good end to his life at Second Chance. He was able to graze and frolic for the summer. Even with his broken hip he was able to run and play. But he was beginning to suffer, so it was time. He went with dignity fitting a horse of his status. We'll miss you Sam.

Katie is the little arabian....Sam's pasture mate....she was with Sam during the procedure.

Brandy's First Parade

Brandy and I went in our first parade in Wellsley tonight with 4 other horses from the farm. We all spent about an hour decorating our horses. Then in the pitch black night, asked the horses to go somewhere they've never been before. I had to walk Brandy down the highway...he just freaked way too much. Once we got to the parade site, I did some schooling with Brandy to calm him down. And once the parade started, I was back in the saddle and Brandy was a trooper. We were behind the fire engines and he didn't startle too much with the horns honking and sirens blaring. Had to give the manholes a wide berth, but other than that, did great. After the parade, we managed to ride down the highway back to home (not me running beside a freaked out pony). The horses did amazing considering we asked them to leave home in the dark, walk down a highway with cars and trucks zipping by at 80km/hr. Subjecting them to loud noises and flashing lights and screaming kids, while walking down the main street of Wellsley. We even survived a snow truck scraping down the highway in front of us. I am a very proud mommy and had a small tear of pride with how much Brandy trusted me to do this. I've accomplished alot with him and am very proud of the things we've been able to do. I had a great night and lots of fun with Elsa, Terry, Ashley, Kat and the gang.

Life Update

Well, December is here and with it the craziness of the Christmas season. I've already been to 2 Christmas parties. Both have been great fun. Today was the party at the farm. There were 19 of us there enjoying each other's company and did a secret santa gift exchange. That was quite fun. And of course had lots of yummy food. I always find this time of the year a bit frustrating trying to arrange and manage seeing everyone over the holidays. I've also been busy with The Refuge with meetings the last couple weeks. Then add my working Saturdays at the salon and my life has become pretty hectic. This week I'm in Oshawa again Wednesday and Thursday, then on Friday hoping to take Brandy with the rest of the gang from Second Chance in the Wellsley parade. That about wraps up what has been happening. Alot of nothing really, just busy with life. Many blessing to family and friends over the Christmas season.
