The 5 Stitch Club
So, here's the story... I went to the barn and was going to take Elsa to get x-rays from her horse trailer incident that got her 5 stitches on Sunday. Her spine has been sore ever since so I was going to drive her for x-rays. But before doing that, she wanted to bring out the 3 horses that arrived on Sunday. One mare, one colt and one 26 stud stallion. So, Meg took the colt out first, Elsa took the mare because she is nice and gentle and Elsa isn't able to move very well with her spine and I followed with the stallion. As we came into the paddock/riding area, the colt started jumping around on Meg and rearing and jumping around. Elsa got the mare in the pasture and I followed with the stallion. As we came through the gate, he decided to get frisky with the mare and as I tried to pull his head back with my 130 pounds......the mare took matters into her own hands, or should I say feet, and gave the stallion a little back off warning kick, which missed the stallion and hit me. Now, luckily, I saw this coming and managed to back off slightly and bend my head back, so her hoof scraped from the bottom of my neck, up my throat and clipped my chin and split it open. If I hadn't been so quick or if she had of kicked harder, that hoof would have crushed my face....or crushed my throat..... So...I learned a valuable lesson...one that I already know...if you can't control the horse, don't try to pull them back, turn their head and make them circle to get the control. Get them off balance... And as I think of the situation, I should have done that outside the pasture, because once I came into the pasture I was stuck kinda at the gate with not alot of room to move. But I'm fine. So, instead of me driving Elsa to get x-rays, Meg had to drive us into Wellsley so I could get stitched, then drove both Elsa and I for x-rays. The dr. wanted to make sure I had no broken bones in my neck or jaw. I'm taking ibuprofin for the swelling and pain and am feeling quite fine right now. It will be a pretty look for this weekend while performing with Krystaal.... and on Tuesday, Elsa and I can go together to get our stitches out!! So...at Second Chance Farm, we now have the 5 stitch club...hopefully not alot of member will be joining, but right now we are 2....hahahahaha
